ASK ME ANYTHING
HOW DO YOU MAKE TEXT POSTS WITH GIFS IN IT,
WITHOUT THE GREY BOX.
WHAT ARE YOUR EXACT STEPS?
For some reason,
I`ve always wanted to answer this question.
I have no clue why.
I think because I had to ask a friend how to do GIF parties myself,
and now I want to share the joy.
first of all,
the reasons I`ve noticed how you get that ugly grey box are:
Using the ȁCinsert/edit imageȁD option with the ȁCcopy image locationȁD routine.
THIS CAN WORK WITHOUT THE GREY BOX PROBLEM,
but only if you`re copying the image location from one of your own reblogged or created posts.
Trying to use copy pasta…or ȁCcopy and pasteȁD with other GIFs from posts or websites.
I`m gonna break it down into a lot of steps.
Save the GIF into a folder on your computer.
I`ll save a GIF and find out when I go to use it that it saved as a JPEG or PNG or bitmap,
or that it just doesn`t want to move,
but most GIFs will save with the simple ȁCright click
Save Image As…ȁD routine.)
Go to your tumblr dash and create a new text post.
In the right corner immediately above the rich text editor(you know,
where you can bold,
create a text break,
add HTML stylings,
quote…that grey bar right above where you start typing text),
there`s a link that says ȁC
Upload photo.ȁD Click it.
It`ll open up your Pictures folder (or just the My Computer…but you have to look for the folder in which you saved your GIF)
and you can search for the GIF you wantto use.
Click or double-click…whatever your settings tell you to do.
Wait a few seconds.
Tumblr likes making you sit there in agony to see if the GIF will actually cooperate.
Type in your text or whatever you want to post.
Click ȁCCreate post.ȁD
When you go back to your dash and see what you`ve posted,
it should show up as an actual picture.
Then there`s a completely different way to put them into message responses,
which I`ll put here anyway since I`m on a GIF explaining roll,
Open two tabs or windows with tumblr - one opened to your messages and the other opened to a blank text post.
Upload the GIF into the blank text post.
Cut and paste the GIF into your message answer.
Post and enjoy the movement.
I hope that helps!
And if it doesn`t,
I can create some screenshots for you as well,
and maybe you`ll see it better.
