YES you absolutly can use 5 maybe more of the :SAME: devices to
watch Netflix with ease. Each adapter Wifi like the adapter in your laptop or the one in your blue ray player or your Boxee has a 6 pairs of digits called a MAC address it looks similar to this 00:6b:55:8w:20:04 In your Netflix account the first our time you login it is relatively seemless beause most people bought just 1 device at first then the next
thing everyone and his broter is making netflix players of some type or another. Netflix had to implement a control center and decided to use your devices MAC address as the item that was or was not allowed. I think you can have 5 or 6 MAC address (devices) approved for streaming Netflix. You can easily take a movie say XYZ blues that is
2 hours long and lets say 1/2 way through you decide you want to go retire to bed and
watch the last 1/2 of the movie (Or maybe only one of you want to
watch the last 1/2 in bed the rest might want to stay in the living room. THIS CAN EASILY BE DONE as long as you manage your MAC addresses as needed. See I have
2 blue ray plays,
2 ROKUS, a Logitec Google TV box (2 of them) don`t ask me why I bought
2 but I have my reasons) PLUS I have a Sony 24" LCD TV with Google TV built in also plus
2 Ipods. Both with the Netflix Application.
OK each time I logged in with a new device I think I had to enter a code froma computer this effectivly told Netflix I was at home (via my usual DSL router`s MAC address and wanting to
watch Netflix on
2 usints at the same time, Netflix has no issue with that. Just go into your account management to the deice management area and you will see a list of the last 5 or 6 devices (be them blue ray or whatever) plus netflix gives you and option to add a nick name in case you get confused like old Ipod and Newer Ipod next to the MAC address. You`;; be AOK as long as you delete MAc addresses that you no longer use. Its easy to overload your MAC addresses I went to my brothers place and used his box so we could
watch a few movies one night but I forgot to delete his MAC address It was Thankgiving day so when I looked at the list of MAC addresses (and in many cases you will see the manufactures name of your device like an Ipod might say APPLE device MAC Number 24:80:91:BH:0k:8s The Mac addresses are case sensitive and hard to get right if you hit a 5 instead of an S or an Ohhh O rather than a 0 zero but you can add them yourself but it is not usually needed. The only reason I can think of is if you thought someone might have your password and you wanted to get alll your own devices MAC addresses into your Netflix manager that way no one could
watch a device via Netflix unless it was in your list. Its a kool kind of control if you think about it and Netflix must protect themselves, they have treated us fairly want to
watch a
2 hour movie called XYZ and your 1 hour into it and decide you or one of you want to retire to the bedrooms player to
watch the last hour of the movie while the rest or your second person finishes watching it in the living room. You can easily do this but chances are slim to one that you can both keep your volume loud seldome will the tracks be saying the same words. You can get close but it always changes as the movie progreses and a few buffers run here or there.
Anyway you must make sure hat you device in both rooms are listed (have viewed netflix at least once before) otherwise you must enter a code in a laptop to approve the bedroom device. Now you have at least
2 (maybe more if you have already watched netflix on your Ipod or Roku or other Blue Ray device. As long as your devices Mac address is in the list of approved (you approved them) devices both of you can
watch the movie. Now whethere or not you will have enough avaiable bandwidth without excessive buffering is another question. After 2am less people are streaming and you can attain far better speeds. In primtetime now days since all these VUDU BlockBuster and 100% streaming programs gobble up bandwidth and your DSL router might have to fight for bandwidth but Netflix is more forgiving than any other streaming program out there. They just keep on rolling even with as little as 300k Netflix will still stream a faily decent quality. No 1080P but not a snow job eitherplenty nice enough to enjoy the movie. I applaud Netflix for having their partial Silverlight and Gosh knows what other secrets they have built in to their streaming system but they have everyone beat except maybe:
http://youtube.com/movies FREE or or
http://yahoo.com/movies (FREE) also do a very good job streaming with poor bandwidth available. Clicker.tv or crackle.com will also send you to sites that do ok streaming just remember if you havent already learned that down towards the bottom right hand side (in many not all cases) an option to choose a poorer video quality so the buffering will stop. Drop it from 480 to 360 or lower if the option is there.
Back to the Netflix deal sure you can stream the same movie or two entirely different movies as long as you`ve logged in with the same device at least once before and its mac address was recorded. Netflix always puts the device name like an iPod would be APPLE then the 6 pairs of numbers with the colon between each pair.
You can watch ABCDEF movie in the living room and your parents or roomates can
watch GHIJK movie in the bedroom or both of you can
watch the same movie its not the movie that matters its he fact of if the device your trying to use has had its MAC address recorded via Netflix device area. Many of us will buy a new and better streaming device so do be affraid to delete the origonal devices MAC address. You can always put the MAC address back in if you wish. Hell you can delete all 5 or 6 of them and start all over but it can be a pain with certain devices forcing you to use a code to keep loggin into your Netflix program. I do NOT ecommend deleting your MAC addresses. Think of your MAC address for each of your devices (A device is usually your Wifi adapter or the so called DONGLE that hanngs on the rear of your blue ray player that probably cost more than your blue ray player. Thats why many people buy the 120 volt wall current path to run data at speeds of 200 mbs (never truly goes advertized speeds) your doing great as long as you see 36 to 54 or up to 300 mbs transfer rate. Keep in mind you can
watch Netflix on as little as LESS THAN 500k or 1/2 of 1 mbs there is too much emphasis on the MBS when all you need is about
2 mbs to view very good streaming video. I know some will dispute this with me. to each his own.
So there you have it. Each of your devices adapters have their own fingerprint and no
2 devices have the same fingerprint (but some can be fooled, called clonning your MAC address. As long as 4 devices are the same brand you can get away with cloning 4 devices then you can have those 4 devices that truly count as 1 mac address and 4 or 5 more MAC addresses from your other devices such as your APPLE and Laptop adapters made by Linksys or Dlink or Cisco. So there you have it. You are the designer of your destiny. You must keep up with your MAC addresses and delete the items that you have sold or no longer ever need. Aain you can always pull a unit from the cob webs and re-add its MAC address for future use.
Enjoy its no big mystery. It is just that Netflix doesn`t make this info logicaly avaiable and you must hunt for it at first or reach enough errors until you end up on the management page and then it dawns on you Oh this is how Netflix keeps track of all my devices. I hope Imy answer has helped many of you better understand the utilization of MAC addresses. Its a neat system and logical.
There is an ole saying nothing good will last forever. Ive herd much talk that many of the DSL providers mostly phone companies will start throttling our DSL speeds. In essence none of the providers ever dreamed in all their wildest dreams that their systems would be taxed to the max with demands for tons and tons of bandwidth. Here Netflix and other competetors are making tons of money off the backs of all the RJ45 jacks and IFITL Fiber optic lines that were laid by the phone company but those same nuts got their streaming and cable prices so high with all the hidden prices. What to heck do they expect. HELLO WE ARE IN A DEPRESSION THE PHONE COMPANIES AND CABLE simply want us to think were signing a cheap price for
2 years but when you read the fine print be it 6 months or 12 months from install people will not be able to afford to pay their
media Bill. Then what The customers all used up and pissed off they will never get them back due to all the lies and deceipt/ I dont understand why the feds arent stepping in like they did with the credit card highway robery and stopping the
media robery BEFORE it becomes a problem. Its as if the
Media Providers need money so bad right this moment that they could care less what the customer thinks or what bill they get stuck with as long as they make some money for the next 6 months. Then what? At least we sign no contracts with Netlix. But partially because Netflix knew there was not enough bandwidth to go around hence why the great price and no contract but at least they will leave a good taste in our mouth.
