Why should he buy a new one if everything else is working properly? Call a local computer repair shop or just look up LaptopScreen .com or ScreenAid .com. Both do notebook screen repair.

I am a Toshiba technician and if you have a dim screen or one that is black or suddenly blacks out , it might just be a power or battery issue. Do some troubleshooting. Check the power connection and see if its loose, then unplug it and take out the battery pack, then press the ON button for 20 seconds or so. Then put the battery back in. If that doesn`t work, you could have a burned out visual back light or a loose inverter. If the problem doesn`t go away, don`t open the LCD monitor and try to fix it yourself as that will void the warranty.

i am currently having the same issue!! Would it cost a lot to replace the inverter or the LCD?? I don`t know if my computer is still under warranty..and as a student, I`d like to know what the best thing I can do is at the present moment.

My toshiba laptop screen goes dark black too and it doesn`t seem to be a power issue. I`ve read that inverter is probably going bad, or the lighting panel behind the LCD is burning out.
