Allow $75 labor per 100 sq.
feet to remove and haul away old shingles.
Allow $50 per sheet for new roof decking materials and labor if it needs bad places patched.
Allow $185 per 100 sq.
feet for new roof shingles.
* Roof shingles have soared in price over the last 2 yrs.
To get an idea of how many squares (a square in roofers terms is equal to 100 sq.
feet of roof area).
measure the length of your house x the distance from the edge of the roof to the peak = total square feet.
Add to this for any valleys if you have them.
It`s best to have 3 roofing companies come out and give you an exact price on your roof,
Include tearoff(this is term used to remove old shingles).
Get all three in writing and they should include tear off,
haul old shingles away, clean up surrounding yard, new metal roof edge and all flashings, new feltpaper,
and all labor.
Compare the 3 estimates and go with the company that your most comfortable with.
Forget the price differences and go with the company you sense will do the best job for the money.
Have them bring a sample shingle out in the color you selected and then write that color on the proposal,
that way you are covered in case the shingles come in different.
You should not have to pay any money down,
if they ask for 10% that is ok,
but no more than that.
Pay only when it is done and you have inspected the job.
Get any warranties on the shingles and the labor before you pay them in full.
